Jules Reidy has composed a new piece for us entitled “Instants and Their Echoes”. The composition is made up chord progressions in 13-limit with Jules playing hexaphonic just intonation guitar. The timing of the chords is determined by long rhythmic cycles and aims to create a sense of suspended time, with gaps filled by an electronic component triggered by the guitar part. The guitar and brass interact dynamically, both in terms of rhythm and harmony - sometimes creating the sense of a unified sound, other times two distinct lines. We recorded this piece last year together with Jules and Sam Dunscombe, it will be released on the Sydney based label Hospital Hill soon. We play the world premiere of this new piece on Thursday 21 September in Berlin at KM28, as part of our Well Tuned Brass 2023 series!
